Megan Dillon grew up in a small Kentucky town of a few hundred people, no stop lights, one gas station, one school, and one bar called Pete’s Place. In Melbourne Kentucky, her dreams of music were born and nurtured, fed by rolling hills, pine trees, river camps, strawberry fields, and the love and support of her friends and family. Her barefoot upbringing inspired the simple, folky, soulful sound you will hear in her collection of original music.

She was influenced early on by her Mother’s vinyl collection, including The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Bob Segar, Simon and Garfunkel, James Taylor, Aretha Franklin, Carly Simon, and Carol King. The substance and soul in the music was undeniably inspiring to Megan. She wanted to make music that could move someone and connect with them with just the words and melodies that came from her heart. That, in her opinion, is what it’s all about.

Her stack of notebooks \“drowning in ink\” were the foundation from which she grew as a writer and poured her thoughts, ideas, poetry, and lyrics into for many years. Until the age of 18, when she pulled a dusty guitar case out from under her Mother’s bed, opened it up, and held that vintage Yamaha classical in her hands for the first time. She knew then that all the words she would write and melodies she’d hum would come together in a big way using this instrument; the missing link. From there, she taught herself to play guitar by ear and wasted no time exploring the art of writing songs. Songwriting came naturally to her, and became an important aspect of her musical dreams.

Singing and dancing in shows at theme parks such as Dollywood and King’s Island, Megan gained useful experience in stage performance. While performing one summer at Dollywood, she was chosen as an opening act for Dolly Parton at her benefit concert at Smokey’s Stadium in Sevierville, TN. Singing for 10,000 people at a sold out show was an unforgettable moment for her. This was the first time Megan had the opportunity to connect with an audience of this magnitude and the incredible rush solidified her decision to pursue music professionally. She was hooked.

After wrapping up the summer shows at Dollywood, she headed back to her hometown to continue finding her place as an artist through songwriting. Megan sang in a few bands that frequently played shows around the Cincinnati area, gaining a local fan base. However, her favorite venues have always been the intimate social settings of front porch swings and bonfires surrounded by her closest friends.

In January of 2010, with a guitar and a suitcase in the back seat of her car, Megan left Kentucky, headed for Nashville, Tennessee, and put the needle to vinyl of her musical journey. She is currently working on her first EP, and is now collaborating with some of music city’s top writers and producers. Megan Dillon has a deep connection to her lyrics, a genuine voice to the music within, and a passion to share it with the world.
